After 18 years in public accounting practice (vintage 2003), including a 6-year stint on the other side in senior financial positions in/around the National Capital Region, one thing is for sure — almost everything that defines me and my career starts with the letter ‘A’. Seriously, it’s true:
Advisory — what I bring to the 150+ small- and medium-sized enterprises I have the privilege of serving.
Advanced Technology — I’m obsessed with cutting-edge accounting, technology and taxation practices and have a voracious appetite for tech-focused thought leadership whenever and wherever I can get my hands on it.
Algonquin College — where I completed my Honours degree in Business Administration specializing in (wait for it .. ), Accounting.
Associates — the peers I work with across Turner Moore’s diverse partner network to bring the best solutions to my clients.
Anie — my amazing daughter, and part of a posse that includes my wife, Sylvie, and son, Patrick.
Avid Volunteer — ok, maybe a bit of a stretch using an adjective that starts with ‘A’, but between not-for-profit and charity accounting support, non-stop sponsorship of community events, almost a decade as treasurer and coach of the Cumberland Minor Hockey Association and campaign CFO for a provincial candidate, I’m something of a ‘giving back’ machine.
I’m Yann Brisebois. I’m approachable, accessible and accountable. Ask anyone … except maybe the accountant you have now.
As a descendant of restaurant owners and a part-time culinary enthusiast, I can’t help but treat anyone that comes to my office or table as my guests. In fact, accounting is a lot like hosting a dinner party. You want your guests to feel special from the time they come through the door and smell the delicious aroma of what you’ve prepared, all the way through to dessert and cheese plate.
So whether I’m serving up advisory, taxation or accounting services — which I’ve been doing since graduating from Ottawa’s La Cité collégiale in 1993 — or serving corporations, entrepreneurs and investors, I like to add a few special ingredients to the mix that keep clients coming back for more. Things like bilingual services for both Ontario and Quebec, specialized investor services, and, as you might expect, impeccable attention to detail.
As much as I would have liked to be a finalist on Hell’s Kitchen and creating 5-star food perfection for world leaders at the G7 Summit, I love accounting more and received my diploma in accounting from l’Université du Québec in Gatineau in 1997, topping that off with a business administration (honors accounting specialization degree) and finally — the cherry on my sundae — a professional designation from the Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario. I accepted an invitation to a seat at the table with Turner Moore in 2006.
When I’m not at the office or in the kitchen, I’m spending time with my amazing children, or helping the players of tomorrow through my involvement with the Cumberland minor hockey association. Like many of us at Turner Moore, I also volunteer in director and treasurer roles for local non-profit organizations.
