The March 2011 issue of Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey shows little change in overall employment for the month. While there was a gain in full-time employment, that gain was offset by a slightly larger decline in part-time work. Overall, the unemployment rate was down by one-tenth of one percentage point, to 7.7%.
For the month, while most provinces showed no notable change in employment, employment figures were down in Quebec and up for Prince Edward Island. The full Labour Force Survey, which analyzes the overall employment picture by province and by economic sector, can be found on the Statistics Canada Web site at http://www.statcan.gc.ca/subjects-sujets/labour-travail/lfs-epa/lfs-epa-eng.htm.
